On what was another hot and humid day at Bribie Island Golf Club, where they had their course and facilities set up magnificently to host their Junior Open, and where we were fortunate that the promised storms didn’t eventuate and in fact, we were blessed with a beautiful sea breeze that helped cool things down to a manageable level for our juniors to put in some incredible performances, particularly for..................
Blaike Perkins (Pelican Waters) and Amy Hodgkins (Royal Queensland) who recorded rounds of 67 (5 under) and 73 (1 under) respectively to be crowned the 2021 Bribie Island Junior Open Champions.
It was a fantastic sight to witness some 125+ of South East Queensland finest and upcoming junior golfers (and their families) take to the fairways to challenge themselves to what was a beautifully presented and challenging golf course.
Unfortunately for everyone on Tour, the Bribie Junior Open is Blaike’s last event as a junior, given he turns eighteen next month, the 20th of February which means that he cannot be considered for The Invincibles IGA Junior Masters.
So that honour goes to Amy Hodgkins (RQ) and Jedd Brady (Virginia 1-2 below) who qualified for The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship that will be hosted by the very generous Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, and Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort during the last week of the September School holidays (Sunday the 26th to Wednesday the 29th of September).
The Invincibles Course Cup went to an extremely excited Jedd Brady (Virginia - p3 below) with his brilliant 65 nett, that in turn qualified him for The Invincibles Gold Cup of Cups Championship that will be hosted by Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort (TBC) Sunday the 28th of November, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner.
A special mention on Jedd’s performance. Playing off a handicap of 6, Jedd recorded his best-ever score, a one under par 71 – 65 nett, which is an outstanding achievement.
I feel ecstatic, Jedd said, I have been having lessons from my coach Brett Maxwell (head coach at Virginia) and they are starting to pay off.
Who would have thought, I am thrilled to bits Jedd said in front of a very-proud mum and dad!
Another “Better Than Your Best Performance” went to Nina Bowen (Bribie Island) also playing off six, got off to a flyer, birdying her first three holes (10,11,12) and made it to the turn four under, to eventually finish the day even par which was an outstanding achievement and one she should be immensely proud of, because the feedback we received is that her fellow club members and team mates certainly are!
A huge congratulations to Samara Dryden (Peregian Golf Course) for her outstanding achievement in recording a “Hole in One” on the temporary 89-meter par three 4th hole to the delight of her very-excited father who couldn’t believe what he had just witnessed.
I couldn’t believe my eyes, I didn’t know what to think or feel Samy said, dad was running round screaming and I started to get excited, I am thrilled to get a Hole in One, it really has a good feel to it.
Just for the record, most felt that the temp hole was enormously difficult, and the only person to even get close to the pin was Blaike Perkins (plus 5 marker) who put it to within a foot for a tap in birdie.
The Invincibles Tour would like to thank and congratulate the team at Bribie, particularly Linda Urguhart (Junior Co-Ordinator) their men’s and women’s Captains, and her team who work tirelessly for junior golf, the pro shop, ground staff, caterers, and bar staff for doing a fantastic job, but most importantly for making everyone feel so welcome!
Linda and everyone that took part in the day, would also like to thank their starters, spotters, water providers, sausage sizzle and those that helped with the Nearest the Pins, which she and the club really appreciated given we are still under Covid-19 restrictions.
It is important to note, whilst The Invincibles Tour are proud and thrilled of what they are able to achieve within junior golf, thanks to their sponsors, supporters and our local golf clubs, it is important to note that “All Junior Classics and Opens” are run and the sole responsibility of the host clubs.
The Invincibles role is to support, promote and help out in any way we can which is something we take pride in and very proud of!
The Invincibles “Brett Martell” Inter – Club Team Shield points went to Royal Queensland (214) who earned 4 points, Pelican Waters (220) came second to record 2 points and Wantima (221) came in third to receive 1 point.
A major highlight on the day was witnessing Lilli Surasen draw The Invincibles membership draw for any junior that signed up prior to the 29th of January. T he lucky winner was Jack Jones (Keperra) who was over the moon with his prize.
Other highlights on the day included: Miles Romagnoli bunker shot on 14, and John Yoon’s up and down from the bunker also on 14 for par, Ethan Ho’s and Pat Ellis’s tee shots and putts on 14 for birdie, Makayla Dyal’s par from the trees on 15, Sophie Thomsen 10 ft and Juhi Rampersad’s 15 ft putts for birdies on 15, along with Amy Hodgkin's chip in for birdie on 14 and Seoyeon Kim’s chip in on 15, also for birdie, which were just a few of the many highlights during the day.
