Over two magnificent days, Pelican Waters Golf Club hosted what turned out to be two brilliant days of Matchplay thanks to some of South East Queensland finest junior golfers, who displayed everything from brilliant shot making, sportsmanship and comradery from players, caddies and the galleries alike. which is fast becoming a hall mark of The Invincibles Tour. To witness the performances and outcome………….

That were on display during the Finals, was a huge thrill.

It was an absolute pleasure to witness a great group of South East Queensland’s finest junior golfers going head to head to get a result, which didn’t go un-noticed by those out on course taking it all in.

The committee of The Invincibles Tour would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank all contestants, their families, caddies, and the galleries for helping make The Invincibles 2019 Matchplay Championships the huge success it was.

"Your input and support helped create a fantastic atmosphere and a very exciting Championship".

As most are aware, due to rescheduling of Cassie Porters itinerary by Golf Australia for her to contest the 2019 Toyota World Junior Cup, where she was named equal Champion with two other girls after scoring 11 under par for the Championship.

Cassie was so disappointed that she had to forfeit her match with Zoe Maxwell, that the first thing she did when she was picked up from the airport by mum and dad (12.30pm) was to head straight to Pelican Waters to support her Invincibles team mates and present the awards at presentation, which was a thrill and a great honour for everyone involved.

To see Cassie, go out of her way to do what she did, is a sign of a true champion and epitomizes what The Invincibles Tour is all about.

She must have been exhausted after a week of competition and flights, but still had the presence of mind to think of others.

The Tour would once again like to take the opportunity to thank Steve Hutchison (Manager Twin Waters G.C) and Andrew Kenny (General Manager - Pelican Waters G.C) and their great teams, for their very generous support in hosting our 2019 Matchplay Championships, which was very much appreciated.

The winners of The Invincibles Matchplay Championships for 2019 were: Will Bowen (Royal Queensland – div 1 – P1 below) who won a tough match with Jordan Rooke (Wantima) 1/up, which was a great effort for Will, considering he was division 2 champion last year!

The Girls Open Champion was Zoe Maxwell (Virginia – P2) who defeated Justice Bosio (Caboolture) 4/2 after both girls produced an incredible display of golf. Justice didn’t do a lot wrong, given she was one under at the completion of her match, it was more what Zoe did right.

After going head to head all day, until Zoe rolled off four birdies over the last five holes, which was an incredible run that caught Justice off guard.

Daniel Cho (Indooroopilly – p3) fought hard to win division 2 boys against Liam Thomson (North Lakes) 2/up.

Kai Schloss (Wynnum – P4) put in an unbelievable come from behind performance to win against Rhys Vanderkruk (Keperra) 2/up.

Highlights in the Final included: Liam Thomson’s drive down the 1st, Jordan Rooke’s approach to 5 to set up birdie, Justice Bosio’s drive on 6 for her birdie, Zoe Maxwell and Justice Bosio’s approaches to the 8th to salvage par’s, after both girls put their second shots into the lake, Zoe’s approach to 13 to set up birdie which were just a few of the many, many highlights exhibited on the day.
As mentioned in previous articles, there were many magnificent highlights during The Invincibles Matchplay championships, but none better than in the way our members competed, they fought hard and did everything in their power to win within the spirit of the game.
