If you’re a junior golfer that loves their golf and the thrill of competing, or a family member that loves to support their children, then it’s hard to believe that you would rather be anywhere else than at the Caloundra Golf Club “on what was a cracker of a day” to contest their Junior Classic, where they had their course and facilities set up magnificently to accommodate some…………………

Outstanding performances.

From a spectator’s perspective, it was fantastic to witness our 5 and 9-hole competitors put in some brilliant performances and most importantly, play in the true spirit of the game.

The 18-hole contestants were on fire early with no fewer than four being one to four under through the halfway mark, but let it slip over the final five holes.

To witness our juniors and their families interacting and playing the game in the way it's meant to be played, is truly a pleasure.

To witness Bailey Arnott (Caloundra) contesting one of his last events as a junior, “prior to turning an old man (18) on the 25th of September” with a hard fought 74. It’s fantastic to win my home club Junior Classic at my final attempt, Bailey said.

I have so many fond memories competing on The Invincibles Tour and this is a fitting way to wind down my junior career.

Bailey went on to say that his father Tom (Head Professional) had great plans for junior golf at Caloundra and with the help of Bailey himself, Rhianna Maree-Lewis and Liam Dawson who are looking forward to putting Caloundra back at the top of junior golf on the Sunshine Coast.

Gympie’s Rebecca O’Neill and Caitlin Vanderkruk (Keperra) put in solid performance to tie with rounds of 78, where Tom Arnott (Caloundra’s - Head Professional) decided to declare both girls as joint winners.

Caloundra member Miles Romagnoli (p3 below) certainly put his home club experience to good use with a spectacular 59 net that’s sent the handicapper into meltdown.

There are times when you know you’re in for a great day, because you know everyone has come to play, and you know your host club is going to do everything in their power to create an atmosphere that brings out the best in everyone, which is what happened on Sunday thanks to everyone involved.

The Invincibles Tour would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Caloundra’s fantastic team, that includes Jason Looker (Manager) their Caterer’s, Bar & Office Staff, Ground Staff, and the team in the Pro Shop who had their course and facilities set up magnificently to host what was a great day out, but most importantly, as with most clubs, for the way they make everyone feel so welcome.

Congratulations to James Riseley (Pelican Waters p-1 below) and Rebecca O’Neill (Gympie p-2) for qualifying for The Invincibles 2019 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship that will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Twin Waters, Peregian Golf Course, Pelican Waters, and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort during the last week of the September School holidays (29th of September to the 2nd of October – 2019).

Rebecca O’Neill also won The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Course Cup with a nett score of 70, and by doing so, qualified for the Sunshine Coast Gold Cup of Cups Championship that will be hosted by Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, Sunday November the 24th, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner (all qualifiers are requested to make themselves available at the dinner).

The lucky draw prize (a Titleist Golf Bag - p4) that was proudly sponsored by Tom Arnott, went to an extremely happy Sam Cavanagh (Caloundra).

The Invincibles 2019 Inter – Club Team Shield points for Round 9 are as follows: Maroochy River, earned the four points for winning, with Pelican Waters Golf Club earning two points for second, and Noosa Springs Golf Club came in third to earn one point!!!

Highlights included: Caitlin Vanderkruk’s putt on 8 for par, Allira Shingles chip in on 6 for par, Liam Dawson’s brilliant up & down on 14 for birdie, Rebecca O’Neill’s tee shot and chip in on 15 for birdie, Luke Barnes magical approach to the 12th from the trees to within a foot to salvage par, Dean Sae-Ung 5m putt on 14 to record back to back birdies, Liam Dawson and Brock Armitage’s excellent 5m putts on 6, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the eighteen hole championship.

A major highlight was witnessing young Shae Coughlan (Maroochy River) and Drew Fernley (Pine Rivers) for maintaining their composure after a couple of horror holes, where Shae lost his ball in the bunker on the 11th to go on and birdie the next hole, and Drew who deemed his ball lost on the 10th, to be found thirty seconds after deeming it lost was heart breaking, but both boys handled it well.

Other highlights in the 9-hole section: saw Sam Wilson drive the green on 2 and sunk a brilliant 7ft putt for birdie, but the main highlight in the 9-hole division was spirit in which they played the game, the sportsmanship and camaraderie that was on display was brilliant and very exciting to be involved in, which once again, were just a few of the many highlights during the 9 hole division.

The Tour would like to thank those that take the time to pass on highlights that happen during our junior events, we feel it adds to the day and it’s nice to acknowledge great performances.

If you see or hear of anything special happening at one of our Invincibles events (or any event for that matter) please don’t sit on them, forward them through to Graeme so we can all enjoy the moment?

The Invincibles Tour would also like to thank and make special mention of Callaway Australia and Drummond Golf Maroochydore for very generously supporting The Invincibles Tour on the day.
