Well what a difference a few days make? From Thursday, where Cyclone Oma was playing havoc with sporting events up the East Coast of Queensland, to the point where weekend sports were being abandoned, thirteen metre waves rolling onto our Sunshine Coast beaches and rain-soaked clouds that were predicted to drop in excess of 500mm’s of rain over the weekend, and one could only ponder over how lucky………..

We were when we arrived at Nambour Golf Club (Sunday February 24) to what were perfect conditions for the team at Nambour to host round 3 of the Sunshine Coast Golf Zones Junior Pennant Season, where our juniors made the most of their good fortune and the perfect conditions (photos bepow).

Given the extreme weather we’d experienced during the week, the team at Nambour in Kynan John, Peter and Mickey Schimak – Orrell, Joan Grace and club Captain, Cal Robert’s should be applauded for way they hosted the day, they did a fantastic job.

Once again, competitors from all clubs (including their caddies, families and committee members) should also be applauded for the sportsmanship and friendships they bring to the game, even in the heat of battle, they create an unbelievable atmosphere.

Some of the many highlights during the day included: Liam Dawson’s drive and approach to the 1st, Nathan Jackson’s bunker shot on 9, Tom Flaskett’s up and down from behind the green for par on 9, Ava Stewart’s approach through the trees on 9 was just magical.

Ruby Kavanagh and Zoe Powell’s approaches to 9, Tyler Quaill played the perfect drive, approach, chip and putt for birdie on 7 to win the hole, Keitta Griffin-Klazema’s drive and approach to 9, Coco Moore’s bunker shot on 9 and Jazmine Lena’s up and down from behind the green for par on 9.

A fun moment was when Coco Moore put her ball up a drain pipeon 7, that took a little bit of retrieving, which were just a few of the many highlights that were on display during the day.

A little request, if you witness any magical highlights on or off the course, please text then to Graeme on 0417 783 848 so we can all enjoy the moment?

The Tour would also like to thank Scott Mayes (Sunshine Coast Golf Association) for his and their very generous support with stats and info.               http://www.sunshinecoastgolf.org/
