On what was a perfect day for golf, and on a course “Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort” who had their facilities set up magnificently to host the final round of the Masters, where, our juniors took every opportunity to make the most of the conditions, in an all-out attempt to win the coveted 2018 Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, where……
Defending Champion George Giblett (Noosa G.C) put in a gutsy performance to defeat a very gallant and talented Kyros Hayden (Caboolture) by one shot, in what was a very close contest from day one of the championship.
The Girls division turned out to be an absolute nail biter when Isabelle Simpson (Indooroopilly) came from five shots down to square the Championship with Justice Bosio (Caboolture) after both girls finished tied together on 230 gross over fifty-four holes, due to day one being washed out at Twin Waters Golf Club without a ball being played.
Simpson was thrilled with her performance overall, even though I felt my chances were slipping away through the middle part of my round, I felt I was hitting the ball well, but not getting the results I was hoping for, Simpson said.
When I turned seven shots down, it was very disappointing, but I was very proud of the way I gathered myself together and fired up to record a very respectable two under par 34 on the back nine, which I was very happy with, because it put me back into contention Simpson said.
Simpson went on to say that Justice is a very solid golfer, a golfer whom I respect, so to take the Championship into a play-off really meant a lot to me and gave me a lot of confidence moving forward, a very proud Simpson said.
George Giblett (Noosa) and Kyros Hayden (Caboolture) started the final days play tied together on 157, after nine holes, Kyros had open-up a three-shot lead with a one under par 35, but to George’s credit, he fought back hard with a 41 to 37 back nine to finish one shot clear and defend his title, I’m stoked George said.
George went on to say, this has been a tough championship given some extreme weather conditions, but I am thrilled to able to defend my title, it means a lot to me.
Hayden went on to take out the Boys Nett Title with combined rounds of 212.
Dhiya Rampersad (North Lakes) played one of the best rounds of her life (77/67nett) to take out the Girls Nett title with a combined nett score of 220.
