The Invincibles Tour, their members, and supporters from as far away as Hervey Bay and Southport took great pleasure in heading to Nambour to take part in their Junior Open, and even though we were three days into a “Queensland Winter” we couldn’t have asked for a better day or conditions to test our skills and fitness against the unique and very challenging Nambour layout, where, Ionna…….
Muir (Maroochy River) put in a very solid performance to take out the Girl’s Division with 87 gross, which is a fantastic effort, particularly when you consider that Ionna was the 9 Hole Champion at Nambour last year!
Olly Merritt (Pelican Waters) put in an excellent performance to win the Boys Title with a very respectable 69 after both he and close friend Bailey Murchie went on a birdie blitz on the back nine!
Despite some heavy rain leading into their Junior Open, Nambour and their team had their course and facilities setup magnificently to host what was another fantastic day’s competition.
The Invincibles Tour on behalf of their members would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to the great team at Nambour, particularly Steve McMahon (Manager) Kynan John (Director of Golf) Cal Roberts (Captain) and Jake Crowther (Pro Shop – p1 below) along with Abby Crook and Michael and Debbie in catering for hosting what was another excellent day out and for making everyone feel so welcome.
Nambour Golf Club and The Invincibles Tour would also like to thank and make special mention of Callaway Australia, Drummond Golf Maroochydore, Mars, and Wilson for very generously sponsoring the day.
Bailey Murchie (Maroochy River – p2 above) qualified for The Invincibles 2018 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship (No girl qualified) that will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, Peregian Golf Course, and Noosa Springs Golf Resorts during the last week of the September School holidays (30th of Sept to the 3rd of Oct).
Olly Merritt (p3 above) also won The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Course Cup with 67 nett and in the process qualified for Sunshine Coast Gold Cup of Cups Championship that will be hosted by Pelican Waters Golf Club (Sunday, November 25) followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner, where we would like to think that all Gold Cup contestants would make themselves available!
The Invincibles Inter – Club Team Shield points for round 3 are as follows: Maroochy river Golf Club earned the four points for winning, Pelican Waters Golf Club earned two points for second, with Caboolture Golf Club taking out one point for third!!!
As is normally the case “Full Results and Gallery” will follow in the News Section on The Invincibles Website.
Highlights on the day included: Ionna Muir’s drive down the first, Will Rothwell’s approach to 9 and Bailey Koch’s bunker shot on 9, Mikayla Dyal’s drive on 10 that earned her NTP, Ionna Muir’s approach to 9, Drew Fernley’s chip in on 6 for birdie, Olly Merritt’s bunker shot on 9, Bailey Murchie’s up and down on 9 for birdie, Ellianna Macrae’s approach to 9, Samuel Wilson’s chip in on 9, along with Charlize Spain’s approach to 9, Mickey Schimak-Orrell’s chip in on 15, and Olly Merritt’s approach to 18 to take out the NTP, and Kai Hinton’s chip in on 18, along with Shae Coghlan’s brilliant effort from the trees on 2 to eventually pitch in from some seventy metres for his par which was a fantastic effort that certainly excited a lot of people, including his mum and pop, which were just brilliant and just a few of the many highlights during the day…….
The Invincibles Tour is looking forward to catching up with everyone at Woodford Golf Club to take part in the Sunshine Coast and South Burnett District Golf Associations Junior Open and Closed Championship.
This is one event that all junior golfers with Golf Australia handicaps should be at, so please take the time to book in early to avoid disappointment (Details via link below)
