Congratulations to our Invincibles members and those keen golfers throughout South East Queensland who took up the challenge of contesting the 2018 Tin Can Bay Junior Classic “despite some heavy rain heading into the weekend” our juniors and their families didn’t regret their choice, given we were treated to an absolute cracker of a day for Tin Can Bay to host their Classic, where we witnessed some incredible golf, particularly in the boy’s division where close friends………..

George Giblett and Cooper Clarke (both from the Noosa Golf Club – p7 below) put in brilliant performances in their sudden death playoff, after both boys finished normal time with two over par, 74’s.

Due to time running out, and given that the boys had played 6, 7, 8, 9, 1 and 9 “without a result” the boys had to be eventually separated by a shootout on the ninth hole, which George won to take out the Boys division of the 2018 Tin Can Bay Junior Classic.

“For the record; George would have won in a c/b” but as everyone knows, The Invincibles Tour always prefer a play-off (given course availability) as do our members who love the opportunity to challenge themselves and test their games under pressure.

The girls division was a little more subdued, where Caitlin Vanderkruk (Keperra) won with 85 gross.

Caitlin Vanderkruk (Keperra – p1 below) and Ben Duncombe (Coral Cove – p2) qualified for The

Invincibles 2018 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship that will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, Peregian Golf Course, and Noosa Springs Golf Resorts during the last week of the September School holidays (Sunday the 30th of Sept to Wednesday the 3rd of October 2018).

Aimee Harvey (Bundaberg – p1 below) took out the Girls Intermediate division with 82 gross.

Kai Hinton (Hervey Bay – p 3 above and p 2 below) won The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Course Cup with his brilliant 65 nett, but unfortunately, because his handicap was too high to qualify for the Gold Cup of Cups Championship, which meant that Jarrod Goodwin (Pelican Waters – p4) qualified for the Coast Gold Cup of Cups Championship which will be hosted by Pelican Waters Golf Club (Sunday November 25) followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner, where we would like to think that all Gold Cup contestants would make themselves available!

One must make special mention of Kai Hinton (Hervey Bay) who not only had his first ever par, he went one step further in front of a big gallery when he putted in from off the green on 7 to record his first ever birdie, and topped his day off with an incredible 65 nett.

Well done Kai from everyone on Tour, because as all our Tour members know, it really doesn’t get any better than “Bettering Your Best”

Other highlights on the day included George Giblett’s approach to 7, Cooper Clarke’s up and down from the trees on 7 for par, Ben Duncombe and Lydia Shackell’s tee shots on 7, Will Rothwell’s up and down on 7 for par, James Riseley’s brilliant par saving putt on 7, Blaik Reibel’s approach to 7 and Zoe Powell’s up and down for par on 7, Seb Carter’s approach to 7, Jordan Speare’s chip in on 13 for birdie, Rhys Vanderkruk’s brilliant chip in on 12 to save par and Samuel Wilson’s approach and putt to save par on 7, were just a few of the many special moments during the day.

The Tour would like to thank Tin Can Bay Golf Club, and in particular Janet Reibel and her great team in Marilyn Richards, Pam Ottoway, and Greg Tritton for having their course and facilities in fantastic condition, but most importantly, for their warm and friendly hospitality and for making everyone feel welcome.

Tin Can Bay and The Tour would also like to thank Bevan & Sandra Reibel (p1 below left) for their very willing and generous sponsorship of their Tin Can Bay’s Junior Classic.

Janet would also like to thank the Tin Can Bay Country Club for supplying drinks via Schweppes for the kids, that really went down a treat!

If you see something special happen at any Junior Classic or Open, or around the traps, please bring them to Graeme’s attention as we would like everyone to enjoy the moment?
