News

On a day that started out as a perfect winter’s day, Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort hosted their Junior Classic on Sunday on their beautifully presented course.

By the turn, however, the winds got up enough to test everyone’s resolve and patience - as the scores would indicate - but our juniors and their caddies handled the situation extremely well, particularly Shae Coghlan (Maroochy River), Jedd Brady (Virginia), Ionna Muir (Maroochy River) and Ruby Kavanagh (Pelican Waters) who excelled.

Shae and Jedd, who each scored 79, could be separated only by a countback, the verdict going to Shae. And a countback was also needed to separate the girls, both of whom shot 78, with Ionna benefiting.

The Invincibles Tour strongly believes that play-offs be used, wherever possible, to resolve ties.

But with darkness setting in, gusty winds blowing across the course and the ever-present Covid regulations, the committee decided to work on the Australian countback system.

We know this is not always going to please everyone, but it is a major priority of The Tour to make sure our system is safe and fair for all!

Given the circumstances The Invincibles Tour extends an Invitation to Ruby Kavanagh (p4 below) to contest The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship as below.

Jedd Brady had already qualified at Bribie Island!

Ionna and Shae (both from Maroochy River p1-2 below) qualified for The Invincibles 2021 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, to be hosted by the generous and supportive Peregian, Twin Waters and Noosa Springs resorts during the holidays (Sunday the 26th, to Wednesday the 29th of September 2021).

Please note, given that Pelican Waters will be a nine-hole course whilst carrying out renovations (revamp), Noosa Springs will be hosting the final two days of the championship.

Shae Coghlan (Maroochy River – p3 above) won The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Course Cup with his 75 nett on a countback from Ruby Kavanagh, and in the process qualified for Sunshine Coast Gold Cup of Cups Championship to be hosted by Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort (Sunday November 21) followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner!

The Brett Martell Inter-Club Team Shield points are as follows: Noosa Springs (240) earned four points for winning round 5 of the 2021 Inter Club Team Shield, Maroochy River Golf Club (245) earned two points for second, with Noosa Golf Club coming third on (247) to earn one point!

Boys Nett Runner-Up: Alex Clark (Wantima p2) with 77c/b.

Girls Best Nett: Amy Coates (Noosa – p3) with 73.

Girls Nett Runner-Up: Ruby Kavanagh (Pelican Waters – p4) who recorded a nett 75.

The Invincibles Tour on behalf of their members and junior golfers throughout south-east Queensland thank and appreciate the great team at the beautifully presented Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, which had their course and facilities set up magnificently to host their Junior Classic, but most importantly for the way they make everyone feel welcome!

The Tour passes on their thanks and appreciation to Penny Smith for once again generously offering to help with scoring at Invincibles events.

We would also like to thank Darren Duncan and Warren Smith for helping with scoring the nine-hole division.

Chase Lear (Headland p1 below) recorded a brilliant 43 off the front of the ladies' tee to win the 9-hole division, Sam Wilson (Maroochy River p2) was runner-up with 49, whilst Janie Carroll (Royal Queensland p3) took out the girl's division with 54 gross!

The Tour would also like to thank Frank Schmidt for the enormous effort he puts in at events and behind the scene.

A special thanks to Caylee Smith for helping with the lucky draw!

Highlights on the day included: Callum Misso’s up and down from the bunker on 7, along with a crow picking his ball up from the 12th fairway and carrying it across the lake to the 13th, Amy Coates’ brilliant 30ft putt on 4 and her approach to 8, Sam Wilson’s fantastic 25ft putt on 8 and drive on 9, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the day.

We would also like to make special mention of The Invincibles Committee who do an excellent job behind the scenes to make sure The Tour runs well, in particular Joss Quirk, Frank Schmidt, and Neil Charkow.
