Well what a “Cracker” of a day; It doesn’t get any better than what we witnessed on Sunday. To see our next generation of junior golfers, and their families take to the fairways to test their skills and patience against one of the coasts newest and beautifully presented golf courses “Maleny Golf Club”
Who had their course in magnificent condition to host our best 6- & 9-hole future champions as they took to the fairways to contest the Zone & District Short Course Championships. As young Layla Barnett (Peregian Golf Club) and Zac Heading (Bribie Island – pictured) would agree to after taking out the 9 Hole Champion Titles for 2019 with rounds of 43 and 49 respectively.
If, Sunday at Maleny was anything to go by, then our next generation of junior golfers on the Sunshine Coast and throughout South East Queensland are in for a very exciting and promising future.
The men’s and women’s Golf Zones and Associations should be thrilled with the running of their third Short Course Championship, it’s a fantastic concept, that creates the perfect environment for our juniors to grow and develop their skills, both social and golfing.
On behalf of our Men & Women’s Zone and District Golf Associations and for those that took part in the day, we would like to thank the team at Maleny that included Tom Bertwhistle, Christine Lemon, Beth Glove and Eve Beaman for their input, support and most importantly, for their friendly hospitality.

There were many highlights during the day, but without doubt, the friendship, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that was on display between players, caddies, families, and organisers was absolutely fantastic.
Other highlights included: Ellianna McCrae’s approach to 5, Brooke Easton’s putt on 5, Merrin Bartholomaeus’s bunker shot on 5 and four metre putt for par on 8, Sam Wilson’s approach to 5, along with Jarvis Miller’s brilliant putt on 8, that were just a few of the many, many highlights on the day.
Well done to everyone, your input and support is helping create an atmosphere that was without doubt, an absolute pleasure to be associated with.
There’s no doubting that this fantastic concept gives our little tackers the perfect opportunity to contest their own Major Event “Championship” that was a joint initiative of both the Sunshine Coast & South Burnett District Golf, and Sunshine Coast Burnett & District Women’s Golf Associations, overseen by Shaun O’Hara (Director Junior Golf) Linda Urquhart, Sue Graham and Judy Patterson (SCB&DWG) and proudly supported by Graeme Miller and Frank Schmidt, The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Junior Golfing Tour!
One of the great benefits to come out of this initiative (see main News Letter for full results and Gallery) is that it gives all parties concerned the perfect opportunity to set in place a unified format for everyone to follow when running six and nine hole junior events, which is long overdue and well worthy of everyone implementing.
Below p4, is Shaun O'Hara and Linda Urquhart (p1 below) along with Sue Graham and Judy Patterson (p4 above) and Graeme Miller, along with their respective organisations are devoted to the growth and development of junior golf.
