If you’re in Queensland on holidays or a local that loves their golf, beaches, restaurants or just relaxing with friends, then you really can’t go past the beautifully presented and friendly hospitality that Twin Waters Golf Club and the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
The world-renowned Twin Waters Golf Club is situated right in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, a very casual five-minute drive north to the Sunshine Coast Airport.
If you haven’t visited the reformed and beautifully presented Twin Waters Golf Course (Queensland - Australia) or enjoyed a round of golf on their challenging par 72 layout, that's situated a comfortable sixty-minutes drive North of Brisbane, then you are really missing out on one of Queensland’s and the Sunshine Coasts most enjoyable experiences.

From the feedback the organisers received during and after the running of the 2019 IBF Junior Classic, was that it doesn’t get any better than playing against or witnessing some 92 of Australia’s and Worlds finest junior golfers (with the leading group playing off a combined +7.6) whilst testing their game on one of Queensland’s premiere and magnificently presented golf courses in Twin Waters. To witness Cassie Porter (Peregian Golf Course) continue….
Her brilliant form after becoming a World Champion in June, where she jointly won the Toyota World Junior Cup in Japan with 11 under par, Cassie then went on to win the Srixon International earlier this month, where she set a new course record on day one, a magnificent 8 under par 64 to win by 12 shots, to Sunday, in perfect condition where she took out the IBF Classic with another excellent sub-par 2 under par 70, which is a fair indication that she is in red hot form.
Cassie’s fantastic performance earned her an invitation from the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) into an event (tbc) along with a $1000 scholarship to be used for travel and accommodation to an event of her choosing, that was proudly sponsored by Ian Baker – Finch, along with other awards that were very generously sponsored by Callaway Australia.
The boy’s division was a vastly different scenario all together, where those that stayed back were treated to an unbelievable six-way play-off (18th hole) after they finished normal time tied together of 74’s.
With Daniel Cho and his father leaving the course prior to hearing the outcome of the results, in itself created a certain amount of drama, with friends frantically ringing them to let them know that Daniel was in a playoff.
As luck would have it, they were close enough to make it back in time with thirty seconds to spare (puffing and panting) to take part in the play-off, and the rest is history.
To witness six incredibly talented young men (left to right above) in Teeren Kannan (Pelican Waters) Jordan Rooke (Wantima) Dujuan Snyman (South Africa – Gold Coast) Daniel Cho (Indooroopilly) Tyler Duncan (Redcliffe) and Josh Liston (Emerald Lakes) who all should be enormously proud of not only their performances but also for the way they handle themselves during Ian’s Classic!
These young men along with the young ladies that contested the IBF Classic are an incredible group who are a pleasure to be associated with and they certainly displayed all the attributes that is required to take them anywhere they like in life!
Ian and wife Jennie were extremely disappointed that that they were not able to attend his Classic this year, given commitments in America, but Ian was absolutely thrilled with the feedback that he received on the day. “I am extremely proud to have my name associated with The Invincibles Tour and the kids, the way they handle themselves both on and off the course is a credit to their parents, their clubs and the game of golf, Ian said".
The conditions of play were explained to those in the play-off, that they would have four holes to decide a winner, after that, it would go into a sudden death shoot out from 150 meters, with the nearest approach to the flag being declared the winner!
The first play-off hole saw Teeren and Dujuan (p1-2 below) drop out, after Tyler, Jordan, Josh and Daniel all birdied.
The second play-off hole saw Daniel (p-3) drop out after the other three boys once again had birdies.
The third time down 18 Jordan (p-4) departed after both Tyler and Josh once again finished with birdies.
The fourth time down 18 saw both boys tie with birdies, which meant we were going into the sudden death shootout from 150 meters where Josh put his ball within two meters of the flag to claim victory and the title of being the 2019 Boys IBF Classic Champion, and a classic it was.
We’re not sure how Ian would have handled a six-way commentary in the play-off as he did with his famous commentary between Ben Stieler and Lewis Hoath back in 2017, which Ben won with an eagle!
Like Cassie, Josh Liston (Emerald Lakes) received a $1000 scholarship to be used for and accommodation to an event of his choosing from Ian, and an exemption into the final qualifying round of the Queensland Open in 2020, along with many other prizes.
We don’t believe at any stage on The Invincibles Tour, or at any event, that we have witnessed or experienced a six-way play-off, a play-off that certainly got everyone’s attention and kept the large gallery that surrounded the 18th green engrossed right to the very last shot, with what was a brilliant day’s golf on a magnificently presented golf course!
The Invincibles Tour on behalf of Ian Baker – Finch, our juniors and their parents, would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to the excellent team at Twin Waters Golf Club, led by Steve Hutchison (Manager) and his teams in the Pro Shop, their Ground Staff, Caterers, Bar Staff, who had their course and facilities set up magnificently to host what was another excellent day out on Tour, but most importantly, as with most clubs, for the way they make everyone feel so welcome.
Congratulations to Poppy Harrington (Redland Bay p-1 below) and Josh Liston (Emerald Lakes p-2) for qualifying for The Invincibles 2020 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship that will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort during the last week of the September School holidays (27th of September to the 1st of October – 2020).
Marcus Carlson (Royal Queensland p-3 above) joined his brother in the Gold Cups of Cups Championship final after winning The Invincibles Course Cup with a magnificent 68 nett. The Gold Cup of Cups will be hosted by Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, Sunday November the 24th, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner (where all qualifiers are requested to make themselves available at the dinner).
The Tour would like to take this opportunity to thank the below organisations for their generous support in helping us promote and develop junior golf on the Sunshine Coast and South East Queensland, where their support and feedback is very much appreciated.
Given that Maroochy River have taken an unassailable lead in The Invincibles 2019 Inter – Club Team Shield, no scores were recorded.
A major highlight on the day, was witnessing how our younger juniors were in awe of sharing the driving range with their idols.
It only seems like yesterday that the likes of Cassie Porter, Justice Bosio, Zoe Maxwell, Tyler Duncan, Josh Listen and Jordan Rooke and many others, were looking up to their idols, to now, where they are the benchmark which is extremely exciting to be associated with.
Other Highlights included: Witnessing Cassie Porter (after her own big day) pick up the bag for Tyler to support him during the play-off, also witnessing the sportsmanship and camaraderie between the players, their families and the organisers which is just brilliant and was certainly on display during the play-off.
As well as, Blake Perkin’s eagle on the 4th, Cassie Porter’s eight meter putt, Phil Snyman’s chip in and Caitlin Vanderkruk’s fifteen meter putt on 5, all for birdies and Tyler Quaill’s brilliant approach to the same hole were just a few of the many highlights that made up what was a magnificent days golf!
The Tour would like to thank those that take the time to pass on highlights that happen during our junior events, as we feel it adds to the day and it’s nice to acknowledge great performances.
A huge thanks to Frank Schmidt for the enormous amount of hard work and effort he puts into The Tour!
A special thanks to Jennie Barnes (Invincibles Secretary) for her help and support, it’s also very much appreciated.
It is fair to say that The Invincibles Tour are extremely proud to have Ian as their Parton and enormously appreciative of his support (and that of Callaway) in helping us create a positive atmosphere where our juniors can reach their full potential in a safe, fair, fun, and friendly environment.
The Invincibles Tour, on behalf of their juniors, families and our golf clubs would like to thank Michael Gawne and Callaway Australia for very generously supporting The Invincibles Tour and the IBF Classic on the day and throughout the year.
