2019 ANNUAL JUNIOR PRESENTATION DINNER
NOOSA SPRINGS GOLF CLUB - Sunday November 24th, 2019
Where once again our Invincibles members
"FOCUSED ON WHAT’S IMPORTANT and DARED TO DREAM"
Where once again our Invincibles members took the opportunity to get dressed up with the aim of gathering together to enjoy the company of family and friends, whilst supporting their tour teammates and having some fun in the process!
It gave The Invincibles Committee a great deal of pleasure to host what was their seventeenth Annual Junior Presentation Dinner in front of some one hundred and nine guests, where it was obvious that they came to have a good time whilst celebrating the performances and achievements that their Tour team mates and friends achieved throughout a very exciting 2019 season, and we don’t believe anyone left disappointed.
It was very exciting to see so many keen juniors and their families gather together to celebrate what had been a great year Touring South East Queensland!
Invincibles Patron and Ambassador, Ian Baker – Finch, was extremely disappointed that he could not be with us to enjoy the dinner, but during a recent visit home he took the opportunity to say a few words to camera to be played in his absence! (view link above)
President and Founder of The Invincibles Tour, Graeme Miller, was thrilled with the way the evening unfolded. We couldn’t have asked for much more, it’s always a thrill to watch our juniors grow at the award speeches and the way they presented themselves, and this year was no exception, Miller said.
After welcoming their special guests, Peter and Jackie Zipf (IGA) Roy and Kim McClean (Drummond Golf Maroochydore) Judy Patterson (Sunshine Coast Burnett & District Women’s Golf) Dallas Furner (Sunshine Coast & South Burnett District Golf Association) Suzie Smith (representing Noosa Springs) along with Ray and Irene Lally who were all there to support our juniors which is fantastic to see!
As is always the case at our dinners and special occasions, when our juniors and their families gather together, it never ceases to amaze in the way they prepare and move from the golf course to the presentation dinner, the transition was quite remarkable and a good indication that everyone had come to have a good time and let their hair down.
“To have young men and women that you have worked with all year, come up and talk to you and not recognize them, is quite incredible, and a little unnerving, Miller said”.
A new innovation at this year’s dinner was to organise a band “We’ve Got You Covered – p1 above” to play whilst our guests arrived and those that contested the Gold Cup would hopefully create a relaxed and fun atmosphere and from the feedback we received is it was fantastic and most definitely added to the festivities!
Other than a few awards that we have highlighted below, the results page will cover all awards presented at The Invincibles Dinner, but there were a few awards that highlighted what a fantastic year 2019 was, a year that created so many opportunities for our past and present members.
Our awards ceremony gave our guests the opportunity to reflect on our past and present juniors (via the big screen) as they headed out onto the world stage to test their games, and we couldn’t be more proud of them, to witness young men and women like Karis Davidson, Charlie Dann, Cameron Smith and Jack Trent (1 to 4 above) and Cassie Porter, Tyler Duncan and Shae Wools-Cobb (1 to 4 below) and so many others.
One can quite understand why our guests were taken aback and in awe by the transition of these and many other juniors that started out with us as five, six or seven year olds to hone their skills on The Invincibles Tour, whilst competing on some of Queensland and Australia’s finest golf courses, to contesting major events on the world stage, with some unbelievable results as we witnessed as the evening unfolded. It only seems like yesterday that these young men and women joined us on Tour, to now, where they are truly flying, and the transition is truly remarkable!
It is important to note, that outside the two Drummond Golf Representative Awards, all other awards are awarded for performances on The Invincibles Tour!
Our dinner gave us the opportunity to reflect on our past and present members to see where they are now and one startling fact that was more than obvious, was that 130 plus of our Invincibles members have gone on to take up employment in the golf industry in one form or another, because not everyone is cut out to be a Touring Professional, which again is fantastic to see!
2019 was a year where we witnessed some incredible, and at times brilliant performances from our nine- and eighteen-hole members, particularly from Layla Barnett (Peregian Golf Course) and Samuel Wilson (Maroochy River 1 – 4 below).
Thanks to Roy & Kim McLean (Drummond Golf Maroochydore) two of our more experienced senior members in Cassie Porter (Peregian Golf Course) and Tyler Duncan (Redcliffe) were awarded the “2019 Drummond Golf Representative Award” for their performances travelling the world representing us and Australia at the highest level.
Cassie became a world Champion (p4 above) when she was announced joint winner at the Toyota Junior World Championship, along with many other achievements that included setting a new course record of 10 under par at Cypress Lakes Resort in NSW!
Along with many other achievements, Tyler (p2 above) finished 2019 ranked No. 1 Boys Junior Amateur in the Golf Australia Order of Merit Rankings!
2019 saw Cassie Porter be awarded the “Best Team Person” and there was a very good reason for that.
After having to pull out of The Invincibles Matchplay Championships via the request of Golf Australia who wanted her to represent them in Japan (as above) that was disappointing for Cassie, but as we all know, was the right way to go!
What really impressed everyone, was that Cassie’s thoughts weren’t to far from her team mates, because the first thing she and her mum and dad did when they picked Cassie up from the Brisbane Airport, was to head straight to Pelican Waters to walk the last nine holes in our Matchplay Championships and stay back to present all the awards which is something that Cassie and her fellow team mates are known for.
Camaraderie and Sportsmanship is something that The Invincibles Tour is renowned for, and that was no more obvious than at our dinner, when three of our award winners were unable to attend due to prior commitments.
But adversity, gives those that are prepared to take the opportunity to offer their support and do what’s in the best interest of the Tour, and that was no more apparent that when Justice Bosio and Tyler Duncan offered their support to read Catelyn Campbell – Nyman’s and Travis Robbie’s award speeches in their absence, which is a true sign of character and sportsmanship which is what The Invincibles have built their reputation on!
Unfortunately, due to Shae competing in the NSW Open “with a very proud dad Steve on his bag, and a medical emergency at home” The Wools-Cobb family to their great disappointment weren’t able to present their “Quiet Achiever Award” but asked Graeme to present it on their behalf, to a very worthy recipient in Tyler Quaill (Maroochy River - p1 below with proud dad Chris).
It gave us great pleasure to have our Zone and District presidents, Judy Patterson (Sunshine Coast Burnett and District Women’s Golf) and Dallas Furner (Sunshine Coast & South Burnett District Golf Association, 2-3 above).
As a very generous offer of support, Dallas made a $1000 donation on behalf of the SC&SBDGA) to The Invincibles Tour whilst acknowledging the valuable contribution The Invincibles Tour, it’s committee and its members have made to junior golf and the Sunshine Coast over many years.
It’s only a small gesture Dallas said, but it is really important to the SC&SBDGA that we let you know how important what you do is, it just doesn’t happen anywhere else Dallas went on to say, what The Invincibles Tour do, is truly remarkable!
Thanks to Brett Martell, who generously offered to host the traditional members roasting that included Zoe Maxwell, Tyler Duncan, Caitlin Vanderkruk and Yevin Samararatne (p2-3 below) to the joy of everyone in the room!
During the presentation ceremonies, there were a few awards that deserve special mention and they include, Teeren Kannan (p1 below) and Caitlyn Campbell-Nyman (Coastline BMW Encouragement Awards) Noosa Springs for doing the most to (Promote, Develop and Nurture Junior Golf) Maroochy River received the awards for (Hosting The Best Junior Classic/Open) and for winning back to back Inter-Club Team Shields) Yevin Samararatne (p4) was awarded the coveted “Players Player Award” and Ruby Kavanagh put in a brilliant performance to win The Invincibles Gold Cup of Cups Championship, which were just a few of the very worthy winners of awards during the evening!
An extremely excited MacRae family (p3-below) won the major raffle valued at approximately $4,445.00 who couldn’t believe their ears when young Layla Barnett drew their name out of the barrel.
A huge thanks to Michael Gawne and Callaway Australia for sponsoring not only the raffle, but also The Invincibles Tour which is something that we really appreciate and never take for granted!
A thrilled Luke Barnes (Junior Captain at Maroochy River) took great delight, along with mum Jen in accepting The Invincibles Inter-Club Team Shield Trophy on behalf of Maroochy River Golf Club.
A great supporter of The Invincibles Tour, Peter Zipf (IGA) took great joy in presenting their Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship jackets, crystal trophies and framed photographs to Zoe Maxwell (Virginia) and Travis Robbie (Southport) accepted by Tyler Duncan given Travis was unavailable.
Over the past couple of years, The Invincibles committee voted to set in place a scholarship that would support those juniors that were putting in an enormous effort to improve and achieve their goals, those juniors that were committed and have the resolve, but didn’t quite get the recognition The Tour felt they deserved.
Juniors that had the right attitude and work ethic, juniors that enhanced the rules and etiquette of the game, and juniors that would represent The Tour at the highest level and thanks to the generosity of The Invincibles sponsors and supporters, where, this year’s recipients of this ward were Zoe Maxwell (Virginia) and Yevin Samararatne (Windaroo Lakes).
As the evening unfolded it became quite apparent, that 2019 had been a remarkable year, where our juniors had taken that first step to “Dared to Dream” and focused on what’s important and as the evening unfolded it became more apparent that their hard work and effort was paying off and they were reaping the rewards!
We were more than impressed in the way our young men and women represented themselves, both on and off the course, which has become the trademark of The Invincible Tour, a trademark that makes for an incredibly exciting Tour to be associated with, Miller said.
To revisit some of the incredible performances that our juniors had achieved, was a thrill, but what really got everyone’s attention was the way our young children had grown into "young men and women" right before our eyes which never ends to amaze!
The way they dressed, their speeches and the way they mixed with guests during the evening was an absolute credit to them and their families, particularly with the older members, who really are great mentors and role models for the younger brigade coming through.
One of the main reasons our dinner was the success it was, is because of the great team at Noosa Springs, so on behalf of The Invincibles Tour and their members we would like to thank Mark Brady (General Manager) for his very generous support, not only to me personally, but junior golf in general, which is something we really do appreciate.
We would also like to extend our thanks and appreciation to Lizie (Functions and Events Manager) Dan (Catering) and staff members, who had everything set up magnificently to host our Gala Dinner and from the feedback we’ve received, was that everyone had a fantastic night and made the most of what was a very exciting evening.
Thanks to Warren Ellis (Director of Golf) who did a brilliant job hosting our Gold Cup of Cups Championship, but most importantly, we would like to thank the whole team at Noosa Springs for making everyone feel so welcome. “Which is something they do extremely well”.
The Invincibles Tour would like to make special mention and thank everyone that supported The Invincibles Tour throughout 2019 (no matter how big or small a part you played) because it’s your input and support that makes The Tour what it is today, one of the best, if not the best, Junior Golf Programs in Australia according to Ian Baker – Finch. “which is a huge endorsement of the Tour”.
The Tour believes that with their input along with that of Drummond Golf Maroochydore’s involvement, will create a new and fresh approach to the great group of juniors taking up the game.
The Invincibles Tour would like to thank and acknowledge a few other very generous people who gave their time, expertise and support leading into the dinner.
A huge thanks to John Connolly (Sunshine Coast Council) for their sponsorship of the trophies and the dinner!
We would like to thank Brett Clarke "Noosa Picture Framing" and GT Print for sponsoring The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters framed photos, that looked absolutely magnificent!
We would also like to thank our golf clubs in Noosa Springs, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, Peregian Golf Courses for hosting our Matchplay Championships,
The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, along with our Gold Cup of Cups Championship. We would like to acknowledge and pass on our thanks and appreciation to Chris Peckham (Source Media) for the fantastic job he did with video photography.
Photos taken by Mike Kenyon.
The Invincibles Tour would like to thank Brad Butcher and Sophie Kurz (Coastline BMW) for generously sponsoring their Coastline BMW Encouragement Award.
A big thanks to Roy & Kim McClean and the team at (Drummond Golf Maroochydore) and Peter & Jackie Zipf (IGA) who have displayed enormous trust and support of The Tour over many years, which we hope will continue as we build for a positive future for junior golfers in South East Queensland heading into 2020.
The Tour would like pass on their thanks and appreciation to Michael Gawne and Callaway Australia for their very generous support of The Invincibles Tour, he’s a very generous man and his and Callaway’s support is very much appreciated.
We don’t believe there would be anyone on Tour that wouldn’t agree that Frank Schmidt (p4 below) is one of the most generous, kind-hearted and supportive members of The Invincibles Tour.
Frank’s input is what makes The Tour tick and that’s why it gives us great pleasure to acknowledge his contribution. He truly is a champion in every sense of the word.
Our presentation dinner gave us the opportunity to introduce and thank our Invincibles Committee in Frank Schmidt (as mentioned) and Jen Barnes (secretary) Neil Charkow the man behind your website, Peter Heiniger (Coach and Advisor) and Brett & Cathy Martell who work hard to create a positive and fun environment for our juniors to enjoy their golf.
A full rundown of award winners (in order of presentation) can be found by clicking on the awards tab at the top of the page.
The Invincibles Tour and their committee would like to wish their sponsors, members, and their families a very Merry Xmas and a Happy, Healthy and Fun Filled 2020.
