What a difference a day makes! Thanks to IGA and a great team of sponsors, suppliers, our juniors and a wonderful team of volunteers we managed to conduct the 18th running of the IGA Invincibles Corporate Golf Day just in time. Given……………..
A day later, and it would have been too late.
As everybody now knows, the Queensland Government was forced to call a south-east Queensland lockdown due to a Covid breakout on Saturday, preventing any golf from being played.
It just goes to show how vulnerable we are in these uncertain times, and how important it is to savour every moment and make the most of our opportunities.
But Friday was just a magnificent day, with a full field, beautiful weather, and a golf course at Twin Waters that was prepared beautifully for one of the highlights of the Invincibles’ year.
It was clear that everyone was determined to make the most of the conditions, particularly given the trials and tribulations we have experienced over the past 20-odd months.
Major sponsors Peter and Anthony Zipf were thrilled with the turnout and the way the day unfolded. Indeed, Peter (p2 below) was blown away with the support of their suppliers and their enthusiasm for the IGA Golf Day.
“It just seems to be getting bigger and bigger, which is fantastic,” Peter said.
“It is a priority of IGA to work with the community and it gives us great joy to be able to support The Invincibles Tour in any way we can.
“We have been proud supporters and sponsors for the past 18 years and that, in itself, says a lot about the relationship.”
Peter said the work The Invincibles had done for junior golf on the Sunshine Coast and south-east Queensland was quite unique and remarkable.
“To witness the results that come from their juniors and program is truly inspirational,” he said.
An indicator of the popularity of the Invincibles golf days is how fast the field fills.
After posting the dates for our IGA Golf Day on the June 15 we had to close bookings two days later, with four groups placed on a waiting list.
It was a clear sign that our supporters and guests love these days and wanted some relief from lockdowns and weren’t going to waste a minute of their opportunity.
This was particularly so for the Anthony Zipf team that included Tony Giles, Rohan Sheppard and Nathan Howie (main photo) who won the day’s competition with a score of 53.25 after scoring 57 off the stick.
Matt Cooper’s team (Kellogg) that included Brendon Furley, Jordan Speare and Scott Nicholas were a close second on 53.375.
John Curtis, Peter Buhk, Shane Taylor, and Lance Masterton (Cooroy Supa IGA – 2) were third with 53.875 (Photo not available).
To everyone’s disappointment, the beautiful Series 1 BMW from Coastline BMW, valued at approximately $56,000, wasn’t won. But maybe next year somebody will ace the very challenging 6th hole at Pelican Waters?
The Tour is grateful to Brad Butcher (Principle) and Belinda Jones (Marketing & Events Manager – p3 below) for organising the car and having it delivered to the course, and for helping with promotions.
On behalf of IGA and The Invincibles Tour, we would like to thank Steve Hutchison (General Manager) and Jacob Freeman (Events Executive) along with Domonic Smith (Director of Golf) their bar staff, caterers and ground staff for making sure everything ran smoothly, and most importantly, for making everyone feel so welcome.
Thanks to Callaway Australia, a very happy and excited Cam Wise (pictured) took home the magnificent Callaway golf package valued at approximately $4,450.
“I didn’t expect this when I left home this morning,” Cam said. “How good is it? You’ve made my day!”
IGA and The Invincibles appreciated the hard work and efforts of head chef Terry, and Ben and Lisa, who did a brilliant job on the BBQ. Everyone certainly made the most of the delicious burgers before heading out onto the course.
The Tour would personally like to acknowledge and pass on their thanks and appreciation to Peter and Anthony Zipf and their team at IGA for their very generous support over many years. It has been very much appreciated and helps us move mountains when it comes to the community and junior golf.
We would also like to thank Roy Leisk (Metcash) for his encouragement and support!
We always appreciate the efforts of Irene Lally and Romeo Bordignon (pictured 2-3 below), because their input is what makes the golf days the great success they are.
Peter and Romeo told how their suppliers had been incredibly supportive, and it is these very generous organisations that donate goods to make sure your show bags were again filled too over-flowing?
A huge thanks to all our local golf clubs for their unbelievable support of junior Golf and The Invincibles Tour.
It was wonderful to see so many past and present juniors supporting the day, particularly Shae Wools-Cobb, now a PGA professional, and other Invincibles members.
We also appreciate the work done by volunteers Bob Miller, Keith Stockill, Di Broome, Ann Livingston and Nicole Hodgkins who all helped make sure your day was a great success.
A big thanks, as always, goes to Frank Schmidt for his input, support, and hard work.
And last, but not least, I would like to thank my lovely wife Marshan for her enormous support and hard work, and for giving me the space to do what’s required to give our juniors the opportunity to follow their dreams.
If we have forgotten anyone we apologize, but to every individual or organisation that participated, helped, or sponsored any part of the day, I would like to say thanks on behalf of IGA and The Invincibles Tour.
Your support makes a huge difference by giving every junior involved in golf on the Sunshine Coast and beyond an unbelievable opportunity to follow their dreams and reach their full potential in what we consider a safe, fair and friendly environment!
As an incentive, The Invincibles Tour, in conjunction with IGA, strive to elevate our Invincibles members to the next level. We seek to give our juniors an experience like a touring professional, albeit at a junior level.
So, with that in mind, we presented scholarships to two lucky juniors who do everything right on Tour and seem to be sometimes overlooked by the golfing associations.
Scholarships to the value of $1000 were presented to proud and excited Caitlin Vanderkruk (Keperra) and Ben Duncombe (Headland). The funds will go towards getting the two outstanding young players into the Australian Amateur Championships or a major championship of their choosing, to give them experience on the national stage.
The Invincibles Tour are certain you share our pride and satisfaction in knowing you have played a huge part in bringing this to fruition.
Your input and support has changed the lives of many young men and women and their families.
So, please, give yourselves a pat on the back for a job well done, because we believe we have achieved our goal of getting together to have fun and raise much needed funds for The Invincibles Junior Program.
Next year we plan to hold our IGA Corporate Golf Day at what will be the newly revamped Pelican Waters course and club house, so keep your eye open to make sure you don’t miss out.

From an Invincibles perspective: we know we speak for our members and their families, when we extend a special thanks and our appreciation to our sponsors and supporters (below) for the massive input and support they give to Junior Golf and The Invincibles Tour.
Their support helps us enormously with the promotion and development of Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast which is something we don’t take for granted and very much appreciate.....
We would also like to make special mention of The Invincibles Committee who do an excellent job behind the scenes to make sure The Tour runs well, in particular Joss Quirk, Frank Schmidt, and Neil Charkow. They give their time so willingly to help at events, behind the scenes or with The Invincibles website in the hope of making sure that your golfing experience is just that much more enjoyable.
