Thanks to the generosity of Mark Brady and his great team at Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort, The Invincibles Tour “after many months in lock down due to the Virus” got back on course to enjoy each-others company, and just as importantly, competitive golf that has been long craved for. And competitive it…..
Was, as thirty-two of South East Queensland finest junior golfers took to the fairways, all be it they were a littles damp under foot given some heavy rain over the proceeding days that turned out to be a perfect sunny day weather wise with no wind.
The matches were played in great spirit, the camaraderie between the player, their caddies and the galleries were brilliant and a pleasure to be associated with.
Particularly the matches that went to the 19th between Justice Bosio (Caboolture) and Aspen Sugars (Brisbane) Yuuki Takada (Southport) and Dhiya Rampersad (Pacific Harbour) along with Kaleb Doolan (Virginia) and Jarrod Goodwin (Pelican Waters) where Justice, Yuuki and Kaleb all won their matches with birdies.
To those that were fortunate enough to have a win, congratulations, and for those that didn’t, please don’t feel too disappointed because from an organisers point of view you all put in a fantastic effort which made for a great day of competition.
All up we had a great day out, and The Invincibles Tour on behalf the juniors that took part and their families, would like to thank the team at Noosa Springs for their input and support, but most importantly, for making everyone feel so welcome!
Major highlights: other than the ones above, Blaike Perkins (Pelican Waters) 10 metre putt on 17 for birdie that won his match. Aspen Sugars (Brisbane) approach to the 15 green to set up her par, after putting her tee shot in the hazard. Also, from the feedback we received was that Yuuki Takada (Southport) and Harry Takis (Royal Queensland) short games were just brilliant and on song all day.
But, by far the greatest highlight was just getting out on the course enjoying each-others company (as seen in the main photo) as we didn’t realize just how much we had missed the banter, friendships, and the competition.
The Tour would like to thank past member Wade Stockill and his father Keith who very generously offered their support given Frank wasn’t available on the day, which was very much appreciated.
The Semi-Finals will be hosted by Twin Waters Golf Club from 7.00am, Sunday the 5th of July, with the Finals being contested from approximately 11.00am following the Semi’s!
As our Invincibles members gathered together at the magnificently presented Twin Waters Golf Course on what was the perfect “cracker” of a day to contest the Semi-Finals and Finals of their 2020 Matchplay Championships.
It was obvious, that arguably the strongest field to ever contest the Championship had come to play and were gearing up for some fierce and very competitive competition, and when you consider the talent in the field, that was made up of some of Australia and Queensland’s finest, not to mention talented junior golfers that had the galleries (at arms distance) bitting at the bit to see how the day was to unfold.
And the day certainly lived up to the hype, with perfect weather conditions that was a bonus that added to the day.
Particularly for Matthys Visser (Redcliffe) Justice Bosio (Caboolture) Harry Takis (Nudgee) and Tom Hutchison (Maroochy River) pictured below, who all won their respective divisions to write their names in the record books for being the worthy winners of the Invincibles Matchplay Championships for 2020. (results below).
In Justice’s case, one can only imagine the joy she and her family felt with the win, given she went through the heartache and disappointment of losing to Zoe Maxwell (Virginia) in last year’s final. “Maybe there is such a thing as the Golfing Gods”.
It was quite a thrill to have Ewan Porter (PGA Professional & Media Commentator) who dropped in to watch proceedings and do us the honour of presenting the awards to Harry Takis and Tom Hutchison (p1-4 below) which gave everyone a buzz.
Even after losing to Justice, a good friend and Tour Teammate Cassie presented the Girls Open award to Justice (p-2) which again is an indication of what The Invincibles Tour represents, and an insight into the calibre of girl Cassie is!
Past member Tyler Duncan (p3 below) presented the award to an excited Matthys Visser for his win in the boys div 2.
In the Semi-Finals: Cassie Porter (Peregian ranked 5th on the Australian Order of Merit +6) & Caitlin Vanderkruk (Keperra 2) brought back some memories of when she defeated Cassie back in the opening round of the 2017 championship, which was her first ever Matchplay Championship.
This time round, Cassie ended up winning 1 Up, after birdying the eighteenth in what was a nail bitting finish.
No matter where you looked, there were serious matches taking place that certainly had everyone’s attention!
The match between Justice Bosio (Caboolture +2) and Yuuki Takada (Southport +3) was a battle against the big hitting Justice and the precise short game of Yuuki, which Justice won 3/2.
Pictured above are the finalist: (Boys div 1) Harry Takis – Blaike Perkins (Girls Open) Cassie Porter – Justice Bosio (Boys div 2) Matthys Visser – Will Bell (Boys div 3) Tom Hutchison and Rhys Vanderkruk.
The match between Blaike Perkins (Pelican Waters) and Baxter Smith (Bribie Island) was a little one sided, but Baxter being the sportsman he is, confided, that Blaike really played well and deserved his win. Blaike was four under off the stick when the match wound up and I didn’t really have the answers today. My game was off, and I couldn’t get into a rhythm, so all credit to Blaike, he’s one hell of a golfer and deserved his win, Baxter said.
Ben Duncombe (Coral Cove) and Harry Takis (Nudgee) was always going to be a tough matchup, where Harry ended up with a 5/4 win to send him through to the finals.
Division 2 Boys: showcased some of our up and coming talent, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
The match between Matthys Visser (Redcliffe) and Kaleb Doolan (Virginia) saw Matthys win 2/1 in a very tight affair.
It was a similar result with Fahim Hilmi (Pacific) and Will Bell (Pelican Waters) where Will won 3/2.
In division 3 boys: we saw Marcus Carlson (Royal Queensland) put up a strong showing against Tom Hutchison (Maroochy River) to eventually go down 4/3.
The final match in division three boys saw Sebastian Carter (Pelican Waters) go down to the wire in a nail bitting finish where Rhys Vanderkruk ran out the winner after finishing 1/up as the Division 1 boys were gearing up on the first to contest the finals.
As seems to be the norm at Invincibles events, their Matchplay Championships were played in great spirit, where sportsmanship and camaraderie between players, their families, and the gallery were an absolute thrill to be associated with and we would like to thank everyone involved in making this happen!
To witness our members in Samara Dryden, Tyler Quaill, and others along with Tyler Duncan (past member) come along to caddie for some of their Tour members was great to see and epitomizes just what the Invincibles is all about!
It also gave us a thrill to have the company of Wade Stockill (past member) and his father Keith come along to help with the scoring and marshalling to make sure that everything ran smoothly which we thank both Wade and Keith for.
Finally, we would like to thank both Steve Hutchison (Manager at Twin Waters) and Mark Brady (Manager – Noosa Springs) and their staff members for making everyone feel welcome and for making our Matchplay Championships the great success it was!
To say Invincibles Tour and their members are privileged to have the support and endorsement from their local golf clubs the way they do, would be stating the obvious, but at the same time this privilege is something we don’t take for granted and something we really do appreciate.
