On what was a picture-perfect day for Mount Coolum Golf Club to host their 2017 Junior Open, where our juniors and families took full advantage by making the most of the perfect conditions and great company to enjoy what was a fantastic day’s golf, particularly for Cassie Porter (Peregian Golf Course) Alec O’Brien (Noosa) and T.J King (inter – Mt Coolum) who took out their individual…..
Divisions with rounds of 75, 73 and 72 respectively.
The heartache story of the day went to Sam Haines “not once, but twice” when his second shot into the tough par 5 seventeenth grazed the hole for “Albatross” that left an easy tap in putt for “Eagle”. Sam was also stiff on the very challenging par 3 fifth hole, when he left his tee shot agonisingly close to the cup for what would have been a Hole in One, but not to be, however, he did achieve his tap in birdie putt!!!
T J King (Mount Coolum) won the Intermediate Division with a very solid even par round of 72, as did Inia Logan (New Zealand).
One has to applaud T J for his sportsmanship, knowing that he would have won the Intermediate title in a c/b, suggested a playoff (which is the Invincibles way” and as it turned out, he won that with a brilliant birdie three on the first playoff hole (the first).
It is worth noting that most clubs “if not all” have thrown their weight behind the intermediate division,
but without the total support of the 18 to 20 old contestants backing this concept, then you are destined not to have well run and organised events to compete in on a regular basis?
We know there are quite a few young men and women that would like to see this division prosper, so let's get the message out there, and we hope to catch up with you at Caloundra Golf Club, Sunday, August 6.
The Invincibles Tour would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to the great team at Mount Coolum, they truly are a close-knit club that really do care about juniors who would like to say thanks to everyone from the Office to the Pro Shop, their ground staff, caterers, and bar staff for not only putting on a great day, but most importantly, for making everyone feel so welcome.
Isabelle Taylor (Sanctuary Cove) and Alec O’Brien (Noosa – p2 above) both qualified for The Invincibles 2017 IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship, which will be hosted by the very generous and supportive Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, Peregian Golf Course, and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort during the last week of the September School holidays (24th to the 27th of September).
Teeren Kannan (Pelican Waters above p3) won The Invincibles Sunshine Coast Course Cup with 69 nett (already qualified) that meant that Sam Haines (Peregian Golf Course – p4) qualified for the Sunshine Coast Gold Cup of Cups Championship that will be hosted by Twin Waters (Sunday November 26) followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner!
The Invincibles Inter – Club Team Shield points for round 8 are as follows: Noosa Springs (first ever) who earned the four points for winning, Noosa Golf Club earned two points for second, with Cooroy Golf Club taking out one point for third.
Highlights on the day included: Masa Tagouchi eight-metre putt on 8 for par, Matt Fishers tee shot of eight, birthday boy Liam Thomson’s tee shot and birdie putt on eight, Alisa Kings tee shot on seventeen and Sam Haine’s second shot into seventeen and tee shot on five, which were brilliant and just a few of the many highlights during the day…….
The Invincibles Tour would like to thank Peter Fisher for very generously offering his support by helping Frank with scoring and stats, which was also very much appreciated.
The Invincibles Tour would also like to thank and make special mention of Callaway Australia, Drummond Golf Maroochydore, and Sunshine Coast Council for very generously supporting The Invincibles Tour.
